Abstract:Research on the evolution characteristics of the Pacific Ocean and Paleo-Asian Ocean gives us some enlightenment for the forming history of Liaohe Group. It can be inferred that the Liaohe Group is not a vanished rift but more likely reaches the oceanic basin of at least Atlantic and Pacific stages. The closing compressive orogeny of ocean basin is a long progressive deformation process which may last several hundred million years. All the structural features formed in the process belong to the same stage. The foliation in Liaohe Group is mainly structural replaced foliation. Therefore the strata should be restored as what it really is by lithologic mapping rather than the Smith stratigraphy principle.
