Abstract Based on the isotopic testing result of the groundwater, river water and rain water from the Western Liaohe plain (of Inner Mongolia part) in 2003, the distribution characteristics of isotopes and the recharge-drain relations of groundwater in the region are analyzed. The average ages of groundwater from different river basins are calculated by the concentration of 3H in the shallow groundwater. The 14C ages and the regional velocities of the confined water are also calculated according to 14C data.
