Abstract To improve the effect of gravity data to infer fault structures, the gridding small domain filtering method is used to highlight the anomaly of gravity gradient zone first, then the horizontal total gradient modulus, analytic signal amplitude and horizontal direction derivative are combined respectively to carry out the secondary processing. Through theoretical model tests, the processing result of single method is compared with that of different combination methods. The combination methods are applied in the measured gravity data processing of Jinyang Basin to infer the fault structure framework in the study area. Comparison of the faults with those determined by seismic section proves the effectiveness of the combined methods in division of fault structures. The results show that the combined application of existing fault structure identification methods can clearly delineate the boundary of geological bodies, and is particularly practical in gravity data processing.
