Abstract The comparative analysis of recent literatures on the metallogenetic dynamics, geological backgrounds and ore forming conditions of Carlin-type gold deposits in both America and China shows a similar metallogenetic geological background, such as the composition of tectonic elements, ancient rift setting,wall-rock alteration, paragenetically associated minerals, element assemblage and maturity of kerogen. The differences are presented in metallogenic epoch, relation to magmatism, occurrence mode of elements etc.The reasons for these differences are also discussed.
