Abstract The survey and stability evaluation for high slopes should be concerned about the types, properties, mechanism, scope and scales of slope deformations. The stability grades of high slope may be divided into stable, basically stable, less stable and unstable states. The design and construction of high slopes should be guided by certain designing thought, technique routine, basic principle and methods. The high slopes at present are reinforced with frames, beams, slippery stakes and block walls according to actual conditions. So for, there is not any norm in the design of high slope to follow. The authors put forward some suggestions about the survey, evaluation and design for high slopes.
