Abstract Tongxu uplift, tectonically located in the north of Southern N. China Basin, is formed by a NWW-trending wide and gentle anticlinorium, superimposed by NNE-trending brachyfolds, and cut through by NWW-, NE- and NNE-trending fault systems. During Paleozoic to Triassic, the area received marine, continental-marine transition and continental basin sediments, then uplifted in the end of Triassic and was denuded widely. The tectonic evolution of Tongxu uplift significantly affected the coal-forming conditions in the area. The coal-searching is prospective in the secondary sags and domes of the uplift.
