Abstract The geothermal resources have been exploited in Shijiangzhuang depression for a long history. Hydrochemistry and isotopic tracing studies are carried out for the geothermal fields in order to assess the heat energy potentials and the exploration prospect. Analysis on the geological background, available geothermal information and buried condition of hot water, as well as geochemical and isotopic characteristics of the water from geochemical dill holes, rainwater and surface water, indicates that the underground thermal water in Shijiangzhuang depression is characterized by constant temperature and large amount, with a great economic potential.
